Representing our members

BIMHN represents a diverse community of past, current and future users of Bristol’s mental health services, as well as those with lived experience of mental health.

We provide a safe space for people to confidentially share their needs and experiences of services, while we campaign for change by holding local providers to account.

BIMHN not only represents individuals, but also user-led groups that support people with mental health problems. We are constantly looking to expand our reach to ensure that our representation is as diverse as possible.

You can become a member of BIMHN by simply filling out our our membership form. As a member-led organisation, membership entitles you to attend our monthly meetings, stand for committee election, and influence the campaigns and projects we undertake


Members may also have the opportunity to represent BIMHN at a number of other meetings that take place within local organisations, authorities, and agencies; bringing their lived experience directly into decision-making processes.

These bodies include Bristol City Council, Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire CCG, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP), and more.

Such meetings include contract monitoring meetings for various mental health services provided in the city, working groups that feed into development of large-scale mental health and suicide prevention strategies, and initiatives intended to develop services to meet the changing needs of the population.

Our lived experience representatives sit on a variety of meetings, as outlined above.
